The Quick Start Guide
The basics
In Age of Chaos you play the role of a local lord just after the king dies. As the king had no heir everyone who is anyone is attempting to become king. If you rebuild the Royal Palace (a monumental undertaking) then everyone will be forced to acknowledge your right to rule. After all, only a true king could build a royal palace. To accomplish your goal you will need to grow your small city into a massive one, build many great buildings, recruit the most powerful army the world has ever seen, and learn the mystical arts of the Mages, Seers, Scholars and Engineers. Fortunately you will have help; all throughout your realm people have come to you as advisors. You should listen to their advice while you are still learning the art of ruling. Remember that although things may seem overwhelming at first this will all be second nature to you soon. Also you don't need to panic; time will only pass when you end your turn and you will be protected from attack by the gods for your first 90* turns. The gods dislike it when the young and weak are picked on.

Turns
Turns are a measurement of time. You get a new turn once every 50* minutes. Each time you end a turn your people will work and your buildings will be built, your military will train and people will be born and die. Time only passes when you end your turn. You can however get attacked at anytime after you've left protection.

Your people
Central to your plans are your people, called peasants, who will obey your every command without question; at least they will do so unless you are a cruel master who doesn't feed them in which case they will starve and eventually revolt. Keeping your people happy is vital to your success, as is properly managing them. Happy workers work harder and are more productive than unhappy workers. Happy people also tend to live longer. At the start of the game you will only be able to hire a few types of workers: farmers, builders, woodsmen, seers and merchants. In order to train people into other professions you'll need to build more buildings.

Building
The aim of the game is to win by completing the Royal Palace. To do this you must build many of the 81 buildings in the game. Each building bestows something new to your empire, such as new professions, new military, new skills and knowledge or a pathway to building something better. Some buildings are specific to one of the games races and give special bonuses so its a good idea to look at the "building tree" diagrams and building information in the Forum/Message Board(Strategy and New Player Help sections), to try and have a rough plan of the order in which you are going to build them. Each building needs different amounts of Wood, Stone, Gold etc in order to start it*, so its best to plan a couple of buildings ahead and use the advice pages to make sure you are producing enough resources to start each new building on the turn you finish the previous one.

* The turns of protection, real time for each turn and the costs of buildings can vary in each game "Age" so please check the message board Announcements section for more information on the current age.
